Is Jewelry covered under a Homeowners Insurance policy?

Homeowners insurance policies provide fairly large limits of “Personal Property” coverage (i.e. for clothing, furniture, electronics, etc.), though, coverage for jewelry items (e.g. engagement ring, wedding band, watch, etc.), is often subject to sub-limits, which usually range from $1,000 to $5,000. These sub-limits can be mitigated by incorporating “Scheduled Personal Property” coverage within a Homeowners policy, or by securing a stand-alone “Personal Articles” policy. Please note that incorporating “Scheduled Personal Property” coverage does increase a Homeowners policy premium, though, employing this strategy ensures that the full value of an item will be reimbursed to the policyholder in the event of a claim/loss. “Scheduled Personal Property” coverage also protects items from a broader range of “causes of loss”, such as “mysterious disappearance.”
