Is Earthquake damage covered by a Homeowners insurance policy?

“Earthquake” is an excluded cause of loss within most Homeowners insurance policies. Some carriers provide the option to include coverage for earthquake damage within a Homeowners policy, though many do not. The risk of earthquake damage can also be mitigated through a “standalone” Earthquake policy. Montlake Insurance Group (MIG) typically recommends and provides “standalone” Earthquake policies, as coverage limits are often more favorable, and policy premiums are often more competitive, in comparison with Homeowners policies that extend Earthquake coverage.
